CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO BE A PROFESSIONAL PRACTITIONER
Core competencies are the essential skills required to become a practitioner of Feng Shui.
1 Learning the language & history of Feng Shui - The Feng Shui paradigm - The deep and shallow structure of Feng Shui This includes having an understanding of the traditional Chinese paradigm and means being able to think within this framework by looking for patterns and interconnected relationships, rather than our more accustomed cause-and-effect linear relationships.
2 Reading energy in tangible forms - Landscape - Form and Configuration - Dwellings, cities, etc We rely on the tangible and intangible energy information we receive from all of our senses - sight, sound, touch, smell and taste - to be able to piece together the complex pattern of inter-relationships in any given situation. In order to read qi (energy) as it manifests in ‘form’, we need to use our spatial skills (our internal 3D map) and to be able to think about how objects sit in space, before we can effectively create and appreciate the outward form of places.
3. Reading energy in intangible forms - Time & space - Bazhai Pai (Eight Houses) - Feixing Pai (Flying Star) Knowing techniques for uncovering the qi (energy) patterns we cannot ‘see’ with our five senses. To get a complete a picture of the inter-relationships of a situation we need to consider the patterns of time and the subconscious energy patterns involved. This includes being able to listen and respond to our client’s unique needs.
4. Putting it together: Identifying problems & formulating solutions - Check lists - Case studies By using a mixture of techniques and information we can put together a pattern of any situation. Form is considered the pivot of the model of inter-relationships, because Feng Shui is essentially about creating space and form. The other techniques are ‘tools’ to help us to do this in the most holistic manner possible.
5. Communicating the solutions: Both verbal & written communication: - a. To clients - b. To other professionals (eg. Architects, interior designers) - c. As case studies and reports Professional Feng Shui consultants must be able to present solutions and advice clearly both to clients and to other professionals, such as architects, interior designers, draftsmen, engineers and builders. We need to be able to communicate well verbally and be able to read plans and produce sketch designs that are of a professional standard. When forming a solution, the key objective is to aim to satisfy our client’s brief, requests and needs.

OUR UNIQUE APPROACH
The European College of Feng Shui (ECOFS) aims to produce efficient students and practitioners who are not only practically effective but also classically correct.
This is possible because the sources of our teaching materials come from the original Chinese Feng Shui classics. We explore them as our starting point and teach the theories, methodologies and practice of authentic Feng Shui which continue to be effective today.
We have a deep, healthy respect for the written words of the past. But we do not follow the classics blindly, because as Zhuangzi said, reading the books of sages who are no longer with us is like looking at the labours of dead men. We aim instead to make the classical text come alive and we refer to the past as a direct and trustworthy means to serve the present.
Being a Feng Shui architect as well as a world authority on the living tradition of classical Chinese Feng Shui, Howard teaches this complex subject in an efficient, friendly and down-to-earth manner, having a contemporary design-orientated approach to delivering authentic traditional Feng Shui training.
We favour teaching a small group of students in a communicative intimate atmosphere, because the progress of each individual student is our primary consideration.
Student learning of the classical theories is always supported by class presentations of case studies, as well as conducting practical applications for our modern environment.
Teaching presentations and case studies, extensive course materials and student manuals are supplied throughout the course.
We are well experienced at delivering classes on zoom and we teach in a communicative, concise manner, giving our fullest support for our students. Their feedback has assured us that their learning outcome has been both enjoyable and successful.
We truly believe that the future success of Feng Shui as a profession depends on the exceptional quality of the practitioners that a teaching institution like ours aims to produce. Therefore we are committed in our endeavour to bring out the best qualities in each and every one of the students who attend our courses.
This is our goal. Our commitment is to deliver it.
Howard Choy

WHAT STUDENTS SAY ABOUT OUR TEACHING
“I realised that the European College of Feng Shui (ECOFS) offers a genuine professional classical Feng Shui training course par excellence when I received the curriculum, which is extensive to say the very least. I found the course highly informative and interactive. It is designed to be challenging, so that when it comes to the final practical examination you are more than well prepared. If you work hard, complete the required assignments and homework, and are prepared to dedicate a few months of your life to rigorous study than you will pass and succeed in reaching your goals.
Howard incorporated a great sense of humour and insight into the curriculum, always welcomed by the students! As a facilitator Sylvia is a fountain of knowledge and always approachable. Howard and Sylvia provide all the tools and resources you need to do well, and I can’t complement them enough for putting together such comprehensive course notes. Both are global professionals with vast experience in the field of classical Feng Shui. I feel extremely privileged to have joined the ECOFS training course.“
Amber van den Berg ECOFS graduate

“Howard’s knowledge is unparalleled. He is perhaps the only teacher of Feng Shui equally at home in practical application and academic research. He is also one of the few who understands the Chinese classics and is able to explain them, not just in translated English but into Australian! His sense of humour and passion to answer any question or solve any problem, paired with his uncanny insights make him the most influential master of his generation. It would be negligent not to take any opportunity to learn from Howard, as those who do never leave with their understanding, skill and art unchanged.” Tyler J Rowe

“Howard is an amazing teacher with an abundance of knowledge and skills which he openly shares with the class. Howard’s teaching style is relaxed, varied and enthusiastic, providing practical excursions, clear presentation and invaluable handouts and knowledge. I look forward to doing many, many more classes with Howard.” Jill Lynch

“Howard is a very valuable, clever and knowledgeable tutor. His training was very good. I loved his real Chinese attitude and philosophy. I hope more people will study the practitioner courses with him.“ Anna Dun
